dpack 2.9.1 exceptions

Postby rioch » June 15th, 2009, 5:32 am

Every now and then I get exceptions in dpack which never go away (I am forced to kill the visual studio process).

I didn't have this problem with the previous version.

Could you make previous versions available for download so I can revert back to it until the problem is resolved? Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I'll be glad to help troubleshoot it for you. I'll need more info to get started though.

Here's what I'm looking for:
1 - log files. Bring up Tools|Options dialog, DPack page and make sure logs are enabled. Get to the point where you get that exception, dismis it a few times. From the same DPack tools option page open log folder and send me all .log files you find there.
2 - screen shot. Send me a screenshot of the exception dialog. I just wanna make sure I know exactly which exception we're dealing with.
3 - your settings. Using VS's Tools|Import/Export... feature, export DPack's settings into a .settings file and send it to me. That'll allow me to configure my copy the same exact way.
4 - your environment and test case. And lastly, what's your OS, VS version and service pack? What is your development language, C#, VB, mixed language, etc.? What kind of project, i.e. web via http, local, class library, etc. you were using? Can you think of what you did to manifest the problem?

Thanks.

Sorry for the extremely late reply. I now get this error quite a lot. Somtimes, I have to hold the <enter> key down and wait for them to all disappear. It happens whenever I open a project.

Here is a screenshot:

(not sure how long that will be around for)[/img]

Can you send me the log file mentioned in that error message?

If you could answer my earlier questions on dev language of your project, type of project web/?, environment, etc. that would help me to narrow the problem down.

Thanks.

System Details:

Windows XP SP3
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
Visual Source Safe (I know, it's rubbish - not my choice!)

Project Details:
Language: c++/MFC
Type: Desktop Application

Error log file: http://pastebin.com/m7128bd1f (for one month)

I couldn't find the settings file. After install, I set all browsers to dock on the right hand side.

The problem seems to be when changes are made to the code and symbols are removed.

I was finally able to reproduce the problem. It's really a weird one. It only happens on C++ projects and only when code element is deleted. And cache state has to be just right for that to happen. Go figure.

I'll try getting a new beta out this weekend. Thanks for your help.
